Communication Plan 2017
Survivor Island Legal Code
**The task: you and your classmates (and me!!) have been plane-wrecked on a deserted island. You only have limited supplies for survival, but that's the least of your worries!!!! The supplies you've recovered:
- enough food for everyone for three meals a day for 7 days
- 5 blankets (single sized)
- cutlery (15 sporks)
- 30 matches
YOU NEED TO CREATE A "SURVIVOR ISLAND LEGAL CODE". This 'code' will need to govern conduct on the island until you are rescued - IF you are rescued!!!!
Full points are ONLY possible if you make the 'Code' look authentic! Beyond that your goal is to think of EVERYTHING that could possibly come up!!! Good luck ;-)

November 20th - Defences for the Accused
You may download the assignment or view it here:
Defences for the Accused
For this assignment you will be preparing a short presentation on one of the following “Defences for the Accused”:
1) Mental States
2) Automatism
3) Intoxication
Your presentation must:
1) Be in a digital format – you may use a PowerPoint/Keynote-style slideshow format, or be more original (maybe in the form of a videotaped newscast or informative video, a website that the other students could visit – use your imagination!)
2) Define and clarify the defence you are presenting – clearly and concisely explain what the defence consists of and the section of the Code in which it is contained
3) Clearly explain when the defense can be used (generally – does it apply in all cases, or only on indictable matters, summary convictions, etc.?)
4) Clearly explain any specific requirements that MUST be present for the defence to possibly apply
5) Present the different sub-categories of the defence (if applicable). Each sub-category must be described and explained
6) Present and explain any interesting facts you want to present about the defence (maybe a “did you know” section, for example)
7) Present the consequences for the accused if the defence is accepted by the Crown
8) Examine 2 examples where the defence could be used – ex: “Jamie was accused of… etc.). Give details of the crime that has been committed and the defence being proposed. Then tell how the defence WILL APPLY in this case. You may use real or fictional examples.
