September - Issues in Technology II - DUE SEPT.
1) Choose one of the following issues in technology. You will be addressing the issue JUST BECAUSE WE CAN, DOES THAT MEAN WE SHOULD?
- AI: Artificial Intelligence
- Video Surveillance
- DNA Analysis
- In-vitro fertilization
- In-car technology
- Instant replay in sports

Write (type) a five-paragraph essay. Follow the outline HERE.
PARAGRAPH five will present YOUR opinion, based on research, on SHOULD WE!!!!!
September 25th - What's Next?
Choose a piece of technology with which you are quite familiar. You will be deciding what's next in the evolution of that technology.
You will be creating an advertisement for the "new" incarnation. Using MSWord or MSPublisher, choose a template that you like and that would be appropriate for your item.
Think about:
- what you like about the current state of the item
- what you think could be improved - what bugs you when you use it?
- what the new incarnation will look like and how it will be different
Your ad should clearly point out the changes for the item in your ad!
Make it appealing - MAKE PEOPLE WANT TO BUY IT!!!
September 26th - Think About...A Day Without - DUE SEPT. 28th
Think about the ONE piece of technology that you just couldn't do without - the thing that would have a significant impact on your life if it were taken away for a day!
Create a childrens' book that tells the story of the day YOU had to go without the chosen technology. Call it "Little (your name) and the Day Without (The Technology)" - ie "Little Steven's Day Without His Power Drill"
Your book should be
- 10-12 pages (15 points)
- Plus a cover page (5 points), and
- An "about the author" page (5 points) at the end.
Each page must have writing and pictures.
Take a look at THIS story online to get an idea of how a children's book is laid out
The story does not necessarily have to be 'kid-appropriate' but it'd be awful nice if it is!
It MUST be colorful!
November 8th - Green Energy Collage
Use the internet to research GREEN ENERGY.
Create a collage, using pictures and words, that clearly illustrates what GREEN ENERGY means. Make sure the term GREEN ENERGY is CLEAR on the page.
There are a variety of collage-maker sites available, or you may want to use Word, but this would be a bit more time-consuming
Print your collage in color, with your name TYPED on it…
November 8 - Pros and Cons of Green Energy
For this assignment you will be creating a one page information leaflet about a particular type of green energy. On this lease let you must include:
1) A picture example of the green energy resource
2) A brief description of the resource, including what it is, how it works, and what it could potentially produce.
3) A list of five advantages, or pros, of this particular resource
4) A list of three cons of this resource. These will likely be reasons why we are not already using it.
You might want to consider choosing your resource from the list in the video we watched. I have linked it below

* You need to come up with your idea and decide how you are going to being it to life. This must include:
- A drawing of the project, with dimensions. Not a single cut will be made until the drawing is approved
- A parts list...this MUST include an itemized list of EVERY part, its dimensions and all
- A list of tools and equipment you will need to construct it
- A lab report:
* You will be supplied a lab report form that must be completed.
- A test run:
* Your project must work!!!! It should perform the task you intended it to perform!
- A poster:
* To conclude the project you must also submit a 'science fair' type poster such as the one below. It should include the categories on the lab report with your findings
Project DUE date is NOVEMBER 30th!!!

As you refer to "D" from the last assignment, complete the following:
1) On the isometric paper, redraw the object in "D" in the last assignment in 2 scales: 1:1 (each unit on the original object is 1 unit on the isometric paper) and 1:2 (each unit from the object in "D" is 2 units on the isometric paper - hint* this one will be 2x the size of the first one you drew)
* Try to centre both drawing on the page, the 1:1 on top and the 1:2 on the bottom
2) Color each visible face on the 1:1 drawing a different color
3) Color the visible faces on 1:2 to match those on the 1:1
4) Using the square grid paper, create a 3-view (top/front/side) drawing of the object.
5) Color the faces on the 3-view to match those on your isometric.
December 8th/9th: Technical Drawing 2

As an introduction to Green Energy you will create a collage of elements of green energy.
The criteria are simple for this - your collage is to have visual representations of a variety of different elements of green energy. It can be examples of products, inventions, infrastructure, or anything that will represent green energy.
You may have to do some research before starting.
The collage should be done on plain white paper. It must:
- Be titled "Green Energy"
- Have a variety, meaning 'more than a couple', of things that represent green energy.
- Be IN COLOR!!!!! Whether you cut out images and glue them, organize them digitally, or whatever you choose, it must be in color...
You may want to consider the categories you learned in the Ecological Footprint assignment to guide you through ideas for images... ;-)
